  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9 inch) double-crust pie pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the all-purpose flour to form a paste and cook for about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add both sugars and water to the saucepan, bringing the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes before removing from heat.
  4. Press one pastry into a 9-inch pie pan and roll out the remaining pastry for the lattice top.
  5. Fill the bottom crust with sliced apples, then weave the lattice strips on top.
  6. Pour the sugar-butter mixture over the lattice crust.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F (220°C), then lower temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 35-45 minutes until apples are soft.
  8. Allow cooling slightly before slicing and serving warm.
