  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional for heat)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp beef drippings (from slow cooker or roasting pan)

Instructions

  1. Season the brisket with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear the brisket on all sides until browned (about 4-5 minutes per side).
  3. Transfer the brisket to a slow cooker or roasting pan. Add onions and garlic around the meat. Pour in beef broth and barbecue sauce.
  4. Mix Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, butter, and beef drippings in a bowl; pour over the brisket.
  5. Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours in the slow cooker or at 300°F (150°C) for about 5-6 hours until tender.
  6. Let the brisket rest for 15 minutes before shredding it with two forks.
