Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 12 tbsp milk (as needed for glaze consistency)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (for glaze)
  • Pinch of salt (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and maple syrup; mix well.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients until combined—do not overmix.
  3. Chill the dough for at least one hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Roll chilled dough into balls and place them on the baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden but centers look slightly underbaked.
  7. Cool on the baking sheet briefly before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, and a pinch of salt. Start with 1 tablespoon of milk; add more as needed until glaze is smooth but not runny.
  9. Spoon glaze over cooled cookies focusing on centers while letting it spread naturally. Allow glaze to set for 30 minutes at room temperature or chill briefly in fridge until firm.
