  • 1 lb (450g) beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Add the beef strips and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until soft and slightly caramelized; season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil over high heat. Stir-fry the marinated beef strips for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. Whisk together additional soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, and cornstarch in a small bowl. Pour this mixture over the beef and simmer until thickened.
  5. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to combine. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
