Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon warm water (105-115°F)
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm whole milk (105-115°F)
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted, divided)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 3 ½ cups bread flour
  • ¼ cup softened unsalted butter (for cinnamon honey butter)
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar (for cinnamon honey butter)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (for cinnamon honey butter)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (for cinnamon honey butter)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  2. Whisk together warmed milk, remaining sugar, and melted butter in a large bowl. Beat in the egg.
  3. Add the foamy yeast mixture to the wet ingredients, then gradually stir in salt and flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 90 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into balls; place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Let the shaped rolls rise again for about an hour until puffy.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While baking, prepare cinnamon honey butter by mixing softened butter with confectioners' sugar, honey, and cinnamon until creamy.
  10. Brush baked rolls with remaining melted butter before serving with cinnamon honey butter.
